The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today touched 14,000 points mark fuelled by buying activity in index-related stocks and closed 63 points higher, but below the 14K milestone.
The BSE-30 share Sensex, which breached 14,000 points, mark to hit a record high of 14,028.47 points at the open on a flurry of buying, shed some ground on profit-taking at higher levels to close at 13,937.65, still up by 63.32 points over previous close of 13,874.33.
It took Sensex just 26 sessions to reach the landmark of 14,000 mark from 13,000 points. The Sensex had touched the 13,000 level on October 30.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained 14.75 points to close at a new high of 4,015.75 after touching an intra-session high of 4,033.20.
Reliance Industries was a major supporter with a significant gain of Rs 19.90 at Rs 1,280 after touching a new high of Rs 1,350, helping Sensex hit the 14,000 mark.
Other gainers were Infosys Technologies, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Steel, Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and Satyam Computer Services.
